  • "Well done James and Ross.
Summer's mum is my cousin. Despite Retts, Summer is such a beautiful little girl and hopefully with more research she will get the chance of a decent future.

Two  brothers have completed an epic cycling challenge to raise more than £5,000.

Ross and James Stokley, of Brighton, cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats to help raise money for the Rett Syndrome Research Trust.

James’ two-year-old daughter, Summer, is affected by the condition which inhibits speech and independent movement.

The brothers completed the ride in 12-and-a-half days and have to date raised more than £5,000.

Mr Stokley said: “It was painful, it’s the first long distance ride I’ve done.

“At the moment we’ve had more than £4,000 online and we’re waiting for more than £1,000 to come in – the target was £4,000 so we’re pretty pleased.

“The weather wasn’t as good as we’d predicted but we only had about three days of solid rain.

“Summer came up and rode the last two miles into John O’Groats with us – which was nice.”

One woman the brothers met on their travels not only helped guide them out of Bristol but later pledged £200 to the cause.

“What she did was great, we met a few people that really helped,” Mr Stokley added.
