Two men injured after fall at Sussex skip hire firm

One man is fighting for his life and another is seriously ill after they plunged 30 feet at an industrial estate.

The two men were working at a skip hire firm near Arundel when they plunged to the ground.

Police and health and safety officials are investigating.

The men were injured at South Coast Skips, at the Rudford Industrial Estate in Ford Road, at Ford, at about 8.50am on Wednesday, July 25.

Sussex Police said they received a report “that two men working there had fallen some 30 feet to the ground while working at height and had sustained serious injuries”.

A 66-year-old man from Waterlooville in Hampshire was flown to Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.

South East Coast Ambulance Service said he had serious head injuries.

He was still in a critical condition last night.

Serious condition

A second man, aged 21 and said to be local, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

He was said to have serious leg and arm injuries.

Both Sussex Police and the Health and Safety Executive |have confirmed they are investigating the circumstances of the falls.

South Coast Skips declined to comment when contacted by The Argus yesterday (July 26).

As well as skip hire, the firm offers recycling and waste disposal services.

On health and safety, its website reads: “It is the policy of South Coast Skips Limited to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of our employees whilst they are at work, and also the health and safety of our temporary workers and others who may be affected by our undertakings.”
