Julie Andrews on Brighton wall

Raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens.

These are a few of Julie Andrews’ favourite things.

Now we might add a crumbling wall on Devil’s Dyke to the list after a graffiti artist’s tribute to The Sound of Music star.

Walkers at the nature spot just outside Brighton and Hove have been enjoying the Banksy-esque artwork on a brick wall depicting the musical actress in her role as Maria in the iconic 1965 film.

Mystery surrounds who created the detailed piece that’s brought the hills alive.

Nurse Julie Alexander – named after Julie Andrews – said: “I was up Devil’s Dyke and saw the graffiti on the ruined building beside the pub. I loved it and it proves there is a place for graffiti.”

Why is it the uncultured always manage to dub any form of stencil artwork as 'Banksy-esque'.

The scrawl is soooo lifelike I actually thought Julie Andrews, I mean Maria, was there in person. How wrong I was.
