Police target uninsured and unlicensed drivers in Eastbourne Police target uninsured and unlicensed drivers in Eastbourne

About 100 vehicles were stopped as part of a police operation on uninsured and unlicensed drivers in Eastbourne.

Cars, vans, lorries, coaches and motorcycles were stopped and checked in the Sussex Downs car park, at Cross Levels Way Eastbourne on Friday, July 27 from 8am to 2pm as part of Operation Vanquish.

The stops were carried out by Sussex Police Road Policing Unit and neighbour policing teams along with officials from the DVLA, VOSA and HM revenue and customs.

Drivers were fined for a variety of offences including using a mobile phone while driving, having an expired MOT on their vehicles, having no insurance while others were given a verbal warning for not compiling with vehicle registration documents and for having an incorrect child restraint.

Officials from the Department of Work and Pensions who also took part in the operation checked 103 drivers and passengers to see if they were claiming eligible benefits.

They issued three cautions and dealt with one for fraud.

fair play to them. in my opinion, usind a mobile phone is the same as having no insurance, because, if your insurance company finds out that you had an accident whilst using your phone, they will refuse point blank to settle the claim. phone users should have their vehicle seized if caught, the same way as they do for no insurace.
