A torch bearer has raised over £1,000 by giving seafront visitors the chance to pose with his torch.

Peter Avery, who works at the Seaside Leisure Cafe in Kings Road Arches, Brighton, carried the torch along the outskirts of Preston Park back in July.

Since then he has been offering the public a chance to have their photo taken with his torch in return for a donation to the RNLI.

Mr Avery said: “It has been incredible. I only expected to make a couple of hundred quid but thanks to the piece in The Argus I will pass £1,000 once the weekend is through.

“It’s all for a great cause so I’d urge anyone who wants a photo to come down.”
