Man in court over flat stab murder

A man has appeared in court today charged with murder.

Unemployed Kayden Smith, 27, is accused of stabbing Jan Jensen at a flat in Belmont Close, Hassocks, on Thursday afternoon.

Mr Jensen was visiting the UK from Denmark.

Police were called to reports of an assault at the property at 3.05pm and found the victim dead, before arresting a man at the scene.

A post-mortem examination revealed Mr Jensen, 52, a tattoo artist, died of a stab wound to the chest.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "Mr Jensen's family have been informed and we have recovered a knife from the scene."

Mr Jensen had recently become friends with Smith.

Smith, of Belmont Close, Hassocks, was remanded in custody by Haywards Heath magistrates to appear before Lewes Crown Court on Tuesday.
