Man arrested for attempted murder in Crawley

A woman is in a critical condition in hospital after being violently assaulted early this morning.

The 41-year-old victim suffered serious head injuries as well as broken fingers and extensive bruising following a domestic argument with a man in Lambeth Close, Broadfield, Crawley.

A 29-year-old local man was arrested for attempted murder at the scene and he is currently helping police with their enquiries.

Police were called at 3.15am by an ambulance crew who were treating the woman.

She was initially taken to East Surrey Hospital in Redhill before being transferred to St George's Hospital, Tooting.

Detective Inspector Tanya Jones said: "This was a very nasty and unprovoked attack, which has left the woman with life-threatening injuries.

“We are conducting house to house enquiries to gain a picture of what happened.

"I would like to appeal to anyone who saw the couple walking in that road and heard the altercation to come forward."

Anyone with information should call Sussex Police on 101, quoting Operation Horizon.
Alternatively they can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

I dislike the term 'unprovoked' in this context. It seems to intimate that there are times when the type of behaviour that leads to this is justified.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Which type of behaviour?Of course, Very bad behaviour? But 'very nasty' and 'unprovoked' underlines how serious the incident.
