Horror film lovers enjoyed a day of screams and scares at an all day festival.

The Frighten Brighton event at the Komedia in Gardner Street attracted large numbers of film-buffs keen to check out some classic movies.

Yesterday's festival was organised by Brighton-based Sarah James and Richard Gladman as part of their Classic Horror Campaign.

They are calling on the BBC to resurrect the old double bills they used to show that were drawn from Universal monster movies and the Hammer collection.

The festival featured five films from 1935's Mad Love, starring Peter Lorre, right up to 1970s Phantasm.

Others were the classic 1942 horror Cat People, giant ant movie Them! from 1964 and the rarely screened 1966 Hammer horror The Plague of the Zombies.

The festival was introduced by Emily Booth from Hastings, who has starred in cult films including Cradle of Fear, Evil Aliens and Doghouse.

Visitors were able to enjoy ghoulish goodies from Shock Horror Magazine and browse through a range of scary tales and memorabilia provided by Hemlock Books.
