Fatboy Slim rocks Olympics closing ceremony

RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW: Fatboy Slim at the Olympics closing ceremony RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW: Fatboy Slim at the Olympics closing ceremony

Fatboy Slim rocked the Olympics closing ceremony last night - then tweeted this picture and the words: 'Bless this Olympic (Acid) House!'

The DJ, who lives in Portslade, performed after comedian Russell Brand had arrived on a psychedelic tour bus performing Pure Imagination from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and The Beatles' I Am The Walrus with string quartet Bond.

The bus transformed into a fluorescent 50m octopus as Fatboy Slim rose from its head, spinning his decks as dancers performed to his hits Right Here, Right Now and The Rockafeller Skank.

Speaking to The Argus this morning, the DJ said he had to keep quiet about the event for about eight months.

He described the atmosphere in the stadium and backstage as "fantastic" and said there was no egos from the all-star cast in preparing for the big night.

He said: "It was absolutely amazing.

"It was an honour to represent my country, it was a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium and backstage and I thought the show went really well.

"It was great to be picked to represent Team GB in djing and the club culture era."

The best of Britain's past and present music scene partied with volunteers, athletes and the world as London 2012 came to a breathtaking close.

The Spice Girls, Madness, Queen, Take That and Annie Lennox took to the stage in a symphony of British music.

Sussex Olympic silver medallist Tina Cook was spotted among the athletes enjoying the event.

Crowds had gathered at the Brighton Big Screen to watch the closing ceremony. They described the event as 'amazing'.

The crowd described the party atmosphere as “beautiful” and said everyone was in the Olympic spirit.

Mine Goundouz, 30, who lives in Marine Parade, Brighton, said: “It is a great atmosphere.

“There is a great crowd. There is music and there are lots of people here. It is amazing, really beautiful.

“I am really pleased to be here.”

Nicky Jennings, 44, of Patcham, is there with her daughters, Amelia, 13, and Jocelyn, seven.

She said: “We wanted to come down to the sea to watch it. It is absolutely brilliant, everyone has come together.”

Her daughter, Patcham High School pupil Amelia Dodge, said: “It is really good and fun, it is really exciting.

“I liked watching the Olympics.

“I liked watching the hurdles and the swimming. Rebecca Adlington is my favourite Olympian.”

Why do we alway need to hear of Fatboy slim as if he's some god he's not even a brightonian or not even sussex born and bread he was born in Bromley
his music is Rap with a silent C

Moan moan whine whine grumble grumble.

Do you actively seek out misery?

Seems that way.

I knew last night what the argus was going to go with as a story...
A factual headline would have been...

Fat balding no longer slim old git stood there whilst miming to another persons records pretending to DJ to music chosen by someone else.

His was by far the most useless contribution to what was an entertaining evening to close a fantastic Olympic's

not even sussex born and bread......you mean bred.
But as they say: Sussex born, Sussex bred, strong in the arm and thick in the 'ead.

Nope, that concludes it. Some people feel their lives just aren't miserable enough and seek things to be unhappy about.

Amazing psychology going on here.

He's probably glad he's not Sussex 'born and bread', given some of the spelling and grammar that comes out of the county - never mind the parochial views...

I bet most people left half way through this bore-fest. They should have just shown the opening ceremony again rather than let George Michael play one off his new album.

You seem to have a bit of a problem with where apostrophes should go, and punctuation in general.

I'd concentrate on getting that right, rather than slagging off other people...

I thought he was the ideal choice of British DJ to represent dance music through the years, but each to their own.

I must admit the closing ceremony was the most disappointing thing in what has otherwise been perhaps the best two weeks in British history. To **** it with faint praise it was slightly better than the Queen's Jubilee concert, but it wasn't a patch on the opening ceremony.

And yes, to mis-quote HMS Pinafore, I DID swear with a big big D, which the language filter obviously didn't like!

Ah the "Brighton Big Screen" - having been foolish enough to attempt a walk along the seafront from Hove into Brighton yesterday and been forced to dodge the cyclists who missed the three fott high "No Cycling" signs, I was faced with a wall of stench the closer I got to the "Brighton Big Screen". The place smelt so strongly of urine visitors were walking past with their noses and faces covered. I'm sure all the visitors who witness this yesterday will flock back to Brighton in future..............

Ah the whiny moan pants- having been foolish enough to go there three times I have not smelt 'urine' and it was a great laugh to watch the Opening Ceremony and films there, it was a great atmosphere. Why do you have to **** on other peoples' parades?

So have we forgotten the Brighton origins of Stomp? And the inspiration provided by the city for the Who? Or is it that the children doing this reporting are just too young to remember?

I always thought Brighton to be a vibrant, cosmopolitan city full of fun people but most of these comments obviously came from Eastbourne

Let's not give 'Fat Boy Norman' a hard time - out of all the 'so called' celebrities to dorn the shores of Brighton he has contributed a fair bit to it's cultural development over the past decade - footie team, beach parties etc. Would have preffered to see him at the opening as the closing ceremony was 'gash'.

Well- I agree with the above-Fatboy Slim has been performing in this young vibrant City for decades and has contributed more to it in that time than any other local celebrity (despite not being an 'outsider') Clearly none of the above moaners know much about him so just choose make petty comments. And enough of the ageism-he's not yet 50 and you too will one day be OLD (if you're lucky!!)

There were more posts from grammarnazis than those who favour the DJ.

I like Fatboy slim, YES I am in the minority here, but for all he makes of Brighton and being linked to the Albion, making music about this City I am not sure if he has ever put anything back? I never see him give to local charities or causes, just swans around by the Lagoon come on fatboy give something back..

When you say give something back, do you mean all the royalties to bands whos music hes trashed and ripped off? I thought there were copyright laws, something he obviosly has never heard of !

What's his hair get to do with it?

Given the crowds at the Amex for his two gigs earlier in the year, I'm pretty sure he has more appeal than some of the other performers last night.
