A fun day to educate children about the emergency services is taking place this weekend.

The 999 fun day features displays from police Scenes of Crime Officers, East Sussex Fire and Rescue, the Coastguard and RNLI Lifeboats and Sussex Safer Road Partnership.

Inspector Richard Delacour from Brighton and Hove Neighbourhood Response Team who is organising this year's event said: "The 999 fun day is about celebrating and raising awareness of the work that the emergency services do as well as giving the public lots of opportunities to ask questions and interact with all the partner agencies.

"Last year’s event saw around 3000 people visit us but we want to beat that this year with a bumper turn out.

The event takes place at Hove Lawns on Sunday, August 19 at 10am until 4pm.

Will they be passing on useful tips such as not to dial 999 to report broken fingernails or request lifts home late at night, and not to pester the emergency services switchboard by phoning up for a chat several times a day? That last service is, of course, provided gratis by the Argus- feel free to phone its reporters any time to discuss your haemhorrhoids or great aunt Lizzie's dementia.

Looks like a fun day all round, provided you don't have to pay for car parking locally!
