A man has been charged with two counts of burglary following break-ins in Hailsham.

The charges follow a burglary in Greenwich Road at 9.30pm on Sunday August 5 in which a £200 laptop and a bottle of wine were stolen and a burglary in Clyde Park, Hailsham, which happened on July 26 where a purse and cash were stolen.

Michael Stonestreet, 24, of Mill Road, Hailsham, is due before Hastings Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, August 22.

District Commander Chief Inspector Dick Coates said: "I would ask residents of Wealden to make it as difficult as possible for thieves to operate by keeping doors and windows secure and not to let anyone in your house unless you are sure you know who they are. If in doubt, keep them out and call the police."

Anyone with information about burglary is asked to call police on 101. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
