Man dies after gang attack in Eastbourne Man dies after gang attack in Eastbourne

A man has lost his fight for life after being attacked by a gang of teenagers outside his local corner shop.

Chris Poole died in hospital last night after suffering serious head injuries during the brutal assault in Eastbourne on Thursday.

He was viciously punched and kicked after being set upon by the gang outside the Premier convenience store in the Hydneye area.

Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of his murder.

Tributes have been paid to Mr Poole by his family, who described him as “a lovely man”.

His partner Penny said: "I'm devastated by the loss of a best friend and my soulmate, also the great father figure to all our children.

"You'll always be in my heart and I love you forever."

His mother Diane said: "Chris was a great and loving son, brother to devastated Rick, lover of wild birds and animals and a friend to anyone.

"Chris attended Ratton School and was an excellent gymnast and always kept himself fit.

"Such a waste of a lovely young man who gave such a lot to so many and who was loved so dearly by us all."

A 15-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remain in police custody this afternoon.

A 13-year-old boy, who was also arrested on suspicion of murder, has been released on police bail until 3 September, pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Wendy Burton, from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: "It's so tremendously sad that this man has died, an absolute tragedy. Our heartfelt condolences go to his family.

"We are doing all we can to learn about what happened that night, the circumstances that led to this attack and now his untimely death.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area last night and who may have any information, however small, to come forward. They should call 101 quoting Operation Delaware or anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

If the death penalty was reintroduced I can think of no better case for using it. These vile disgusting filth who did this should swing by a rope.

Hampden Park .. nuff said.
Very sad. Is this country ever going to do anything about the growing underclass of scumbags who are taking over this land and ruining so many lives.
RIP.

'19 year old man'? He's not a man. he's an asrehole. Makes me sick when this happens. Get a job, and show some willingness to live as part of a community. Your parents must be so ashamed. I would be. Disgraceful behaviour. Sorry for your loss, Penny.

It would certainly be nice to know more about this story in case it isn't as black and white as it seems. If this was a random attack, I agree with you, something has to be done to stop this violence, who do these kids think they are?

Absolutely mortified by this and my deepest sympathy to family and friends.

How can we allow the under life scum to live in our society. Death penalty a must.

Again my sympathy! RIP

Kids have been getting out of control for ages.

I'm sorry that Chris Poole has had to pay such a high price for it.

I do have two teenage children myself, I do hope they would never get involved in anything like this.

However there does seem to be an awful lot of sh1t out there that does`nt care about anything and has no feelings for anyone.

Put them down.

Those teenagers should all be hunted down, lockedup for many, many years to come and their families named and shamed for bringing them up so that violence of this order was even possible.

In fact I'd jail their parents for bringing them up to be such vile, worthless scum.

Kids could have been hassling him to buy booze or fags...Something now when a trip to your corner shop results in death. These feral 'kids' really do need a short sharp lesson. What's the point of locking 'em up for 5 yrs? This government has to act strongly and swiftly. My deepest sympathy goes out to Mr Poole's family. A non-sensical waste of life!

Another good man is killed, Clockwork Orange-style, in the UK. Yet another. Where I live, the animals who did this would hang. No doubt about that.

some of the people commenting on this subject keep reffering to these scum as kids,,they are not children .they are teenagers,im sure that most of you grew up not wanting to beat up others to the point of killing them,in those days there was a severe punishment,,the rope!the parents of these gutless rats should have to meet the wife/mother/of the man they have murderd, and try to explain why,it happend, and then locked away with there filthy offspring,

Is nowhere safe in Sussex anymore?
This is going to carry on happening until some serious sentences are handed down by the Judges who never have to visit a corner shop and run the gauntlet of feral children.
RIP

By the time the liberal apologists get done with it, these scum will probably get a probation & a holiday to help them deal with the stress.

It is the fault of successive governments that this is happening - our whole country is becoming feral and it's got to stop. We need to vote in a new party - one that cares for the public majority of us but comes down tough if they don't obey the law. I am so sorry for this poor family.

Rarely agree with anyone stating a political solution is required, however on this occasion and based on recent evidence, agree its a cultural change that will make a difference.

Suggest we start by immediately capping benefits, building jails and filling them with the 'off the rails' population - thus signalling what won't be accepted on the journey to great.

Once done we can develop the future strategies and invest in the education and supporting legislation to build a future where we create success, rather than compensate and sympathise with failure.

Many of the people reading this may have been to the beach today. If so did you feel respect, warmth and consideration from those around you, or did it feel like in my case, god I hope these people go soon. In my case those people were typically overweight mothers (no father with them) and several completely feral kids, with no coaching from mum to guide them to stop throwing stones etc etc..

Yes, we all see it and live with it and as suggested above the time is right to flush it away.

Getaroundin. Having read ur comment I find it offensive that u pick on single mothers.

I am as single mother of 2 and I am a size 10.

My children are behaved and not part of gang culture.

I find your generalisation most upsetting and I think u will find that some of the children involved come from 2 parent families also!

My comments stem from observations at the beach and I am not picking on single mothers.

Getaroundin has a point, how many young girls (16-17) now have kids just to get a free council flat! Dad does a bunk, hence the child grows up without an idea what a stable family is. Hence to feel 'accepted' they have to prove how yough they are..Sussex is a county of beauty, not inner city London gang culture which this government has to stop, and now NOW! Yes cap benefits, give vouchers for food, clothes instead of the £100+ a week for watching Jeremy Kyle!

Cr@p!! and this is part of the problem! People have got to take responsibility for their actions and despite the hardship in life cant blame all their problems on others. Its always someone elses fault isnt it! It wasnt the government who killed this man!

I see your posts are deficient to the tune of "I remain sir your obedient servant". Does that make you as illiterate as you are implying singlemummy is?
