Firefighters unable to rescue kitten stuck up tree in Hove churchyard

Firefighters were unable to coax a little kitten down from a tree in churchyard.

Crew from Hove Fire Station attempted to bring down the kitten from a tree in the churchyard of Holy Trinity Church in Blatchington Road, Hove at 7.30pm last night.

Firefighters said the cat had been up the tree for several days and its owner had not been traced.

After an hour and with the light fading, firefighters called off the rescue but said they would be returning tonight.

'the light is fading so we will come back tomorrow night'! During the day might be more appropriate or how about putting some food on some lower branches to encourage it down. It may have been scared by humans hence it ran up the tree in the first place, poor thing.

Given recent reports I am amazed that some teenage git hasn't by now shot it with an air rifle.

Hasn't the Green party started issuing mobile phones to kittens as part of it's transport policy and renewable energy policy?

It'll get down on its own once its hungry. Shame it didn't have an 'Occupy' poster with it, Caroline Lucas would have rushed round there to give it support, food, drink and benefits.

Set the tree on fire that'll get it moving.

Some genuinely funny comments here, including a few from people who WON'T be asked to cat-sit next time I'm on holiday.

Surely, though, Argus we could have got a picture (or even a video) of the cute little bundle of fluff?

And since the Fire Brigade can't help shouldn't we be calling in the army or G4S or International Rescue or someone? Can the Argus not organise a campaign?

Hi Goldenwight,

I'm delighted to let you know the kitten has now come down from the tree. This does mean that getting a picture/video would be impossible now though :)

Rather than call the firebrigade why did the vicar of the church not pray and get some divine intervention lol........well at least this would have saved the taxpayers paying for the time and fuel etc...lol

Rang Hove fire station, they got the kitten last night. Said it went to the RSPCA, rang them at Patcham, but they do not have it. Hope it is ok.
