An Olympic torchbearer has raised more than £7,000 for charity after running from the Arc de Triomphe in Paris to London’s Marble Arch.

Kevin Betts, 28, from Worthing, ran through West Blatchington with the Olympic torch and now along with eight fellow runners completed the epic 160-mile journey in just four days to raise money for the Rethink mental health charity.

His father, who suffered from depression, took his own life in 2003.

Since then Kevin has dedicated much of his spare time and effort to raising money for mental health charities and raising awareness.

He said: “I decided after my dad’s death that I needed to take inspiration from somewhere and had to try to make good of what happened.

“I wanted to do something different – and what better than a year of torment and pushing myself.

“Paris to London pushed me to the edge, but this is small fry compared to what some people with mental health problems have to face.”

Kevin has so far raised £7,000 of his £10,000 target for Rethink. To donate visit www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/arctoarch .
