Rail delays after incident at Aldrington station

Rail services were disrupted after a person was believed to be hit by a train.

Emergency services were called to Aldrington station in Hove at about 3.30pm today.

A spokeswoman for Southern Rail, which operates services on the south coast line, said the driver of the train raised the alarm after he believed a passenger on the station had been hit by the train.

Delays of up to 45 minutes were caused as the electricity to the tracks was turned off.

However, the spokeswoman said, after a police search of the area, it was thought the person had suffered no injuries.

She added were expecting to be back up and running by 4.30pm.

Passengers can use tickets on Stagecoach and Brighton and Hove bus services while the disruption continues.

If, as I read, no one has been hit by a train, then I am very pleased.
However, Southern saying there are delays of 45minutes, and services back up and running by 4.30p.m. is stretching the truth to breaking point. Southern have cancelled the 17.05, 18.05 and 19.05 from Cosham to Brighton. It is an hourly service. Consequently, instead of being home at 6.30, I shall be home at 9.00 p.m. at the earliest.
