Organisers are putting the finishing touches to this year’s Pride site ahead of the event on Saturday, September 1.

Event director Trevor Edwards and chairman of the Rainbow Fund Paul Elgood inspected the Preston Park grounds with just hours to go until the festival starts.

Mr Edwards said: “Everything is looking fantastic and I can’t wait for it to get under way.

“The site looks fantastic and we have had great support from across the city.”

Pride gave £5,112 to the Rainbow Fund following the donation of £1 from every ticket sold.

The fund supports LGBT and HIV/Aids charities across the country.

Tickets are still available at £17.50 for adults, £10 for students and £40 for the family.

Unfortunately by the time the site has been cleared up the public will not have been able to access most of the park for a week

That effectively makes it two weeks that the park cannot be used as it has not really been available for use since this Monday.

Oh shut up moany moany whiners

IT IS ONE FREAKING WEEKEND

Leave Brighton for the weekend or forever if it is such a big deal for you.

I don't believe people are acting like this is the first pride ever.

Doesn't Pride come before a fall?

I'm bored with people asking me "Are you going to Pride?" and getting a shocked "You're not?" when I say "No". I've never been, have never had any interest in going, and can't see myself ever going in the future. It's not compulsory, you know. But good luck to those that are going, hope you have a good time. Just put your litter in the bin, and stay away from the traffic.

Not sure how to take your post porkboat...just because people are going to Pride doesn't mean they have no common sense or pride in this city.

Is this going to be the first year in a long time Pride makes a profit? .... I doubt it.

How much do we (the taxpayer) stand to lose this year? (wasn't it £20,000 last year?) .... and when will be find out.

Queue people saying "but this year it's different" ...something else that gets said every year.

Goodness George, what did you want to do in Preston Park that you can't do in any of the other available parks nearby.
This city is awash with green space. Try Surrenden Field or Waterhall just a stones throw away.

if only 5112 tickets have been sold this year it will be another flop ,and leave more people out of pocket again ,so who will pick up the tab for it ,should the rip off bars along st james street ect not put there hand in there pockets and help out ?????????????

I shall steer clear of Pride since it's not my thing but it is good for the city. Unfortunately for us it drags business away from the town centre into Kemp Town so we don't gain from it, but we have a healthy and regular gay clientèle the rest of the year so we have no problem with it at all. Now that the council does not fund I can't see why anyone should worry about it.

The event is still effectively being subsidised though, unless the organisers are paying to hire Preston Park?

Bars in st james's street do put there hands in there pockets the non gay population who enjoy pride should stick there hands in there pocket.
I'm fed up with people and businesses being gay for a day to cash in on pride, then despise us for the rest of the year

This gay man is not keen on crowds. I will be at home reading some novels this weekend. Good luck to those attending. Have fun. No illegal narcotics please.

To get back to the article. Yes the site does look fantastic this year. Well laid-out with high-quality stuff. And being as it will only be there for a few days it will only do a fraction of the damage to the park that Brighton Festival does to the Valley Gardens. Good luck to it.

It is because of some of the comments lost here that Pride is still required.

People are still persecuted for being gay.

People are still KILLED for being gay.

People are still spat-on and kicked for being gay.

Young people still suffer rejection for being gay.

Brighton Pride must get this message across, and not the normal one of party party.

Have a fun, safe, happy pride everyone, remember we still have a long way to go for full equality.

Finally, some people are straight, get over it!.

clearly 'lost' should read 'listed' in my post above but the message remains the same. Life is not one big party if your gay.

The sun is out, the tents are up, I think people should just loosen up and have a bit of a dance and party. And stop moaning.

lol @ the posts to the tune of "I'm not going, it's not my thing, but I hope everyone has a fabulous day."

Perhaps "I'm not going, it's not my thing" translates to "I'm not gay or anything..."

I believe more people are persecuted in THIS COUNTRY now for being ginger than for being Gay.

Surely it is time now to end Gay Pride events and integrate?

Good Luck and I hope the weather is kind to you.
Illness will keep me away this year but I have attended for many years.
Those that do attend please have respect for the local residents and the City by taking your litter home or placing it in the bins provided.
Bill - an old and happy Queen. XX
