Brighton Pride hailed an “overwhelming success” Brighton Pride hailed an “overwhelming success”

Organisers have hailed Pride 2012 as an “overwhelming success” with ticket sales up on last year.

Thousands lined the streets from 11am for the parade before packing into Preston Park for music, comedy and dance.

Fatboy Slim and the Freemasons were among the headline acts with Alexandra Burke pulling out at the last minute.

Pride Director, Trevor Edwards, said: “We are really pleased with how it has all gone.

“Ticket sales look up on last year and it’s now full steam ahead for next year.”

Success for organisers ,charges were way over top £4 for a can. The parade was rubbish. Not one gay venue from Brighton had a float.

As a gay man I am appalled at how Brighton pride is once again lining the pockets of business. Only £1 from ticket sales is going to charity so don't believe the headlines. I will not support pride again.

I went to the park with a couple of friends, although we didn't go into the fenced-off area. Even in the public area, it was disgusting - there were heterosexual couples holding hands, touching each other, and even KISSING, in FULL VIEW of everyone! I mean, I don't mind what these "straights" (or whatever we're allowed to call them these days) get up to in the privacy of their own bedroom, but I don't want it shoved in my face, especially when there are impressionable youngsters around. I'm all for live & let live, but let us not forget that people aren't MADE hetero, it's a lifestyle choice. I expect my comments will be torn apart by "straight rights" activists, but someone needs to make a stand. I mean, whatever next - men being allowed to marry women, in church? The mind boggles.

I seem to remember that last year was "hailed a success" until they added it all up a couple of weeks later to realise they made a loss.... as with the past few years before that.

I await to find out this one made a loss and that we are picking up the tab in about a fortnights time.

You should become a stand up comedian with such witty, ground breaking observations. You're almost as edgy as Russel Howard.

A pint of vinegar with extra lemon slices. I have to look sour faced and disgusted at all times, or people will think I'm going soft in my old age. And a pickled egg to give my belches that extra "zing".

You've got to be joking !! I took my 11 month year old daughter into the fenced-off playground in Preston Park at 11.00 this morning and found it awash with beer cans, bottles, food wrappers, fag ends and all kinds of rubbish. It was absolutely disgusting as was the all the tree lined woods between the playground and Preston Park Avenue where there was discarded underwear, abandoned clothes, empty bottles and cans and several tents still occupied with revelers. Since when has Preston Park become a camp site for socially maladjusted deviants and sexual perverts.
The sooner Pride is banned by Brighton Council the better. The name itself is a misnomer. What is there to be proud of ? Its a festival for a minority fringe of freaks.
That doesn't surprise me, see how bad it is tomorrow morning!!

As I left the park at about 8pm large groups of teenagers had set up camp on bowling greens and other areas of the park and were throwing their own party.
They clearly had not gone into the park and were not there to celebrate Pride but were having their own parties.
A group of about five coppers passed me and looked at the kids but not one of them asked these kids to move off the greens which has signs up saying 'keep off the bowling greens'.
These are not real Pride-goers but groups of teenagers who don't want to pay the money to get in the park and are not really interested in Pride, but want to hang around the edges and have their own little boozy party.
These are the same types of teenagers you see sitting on the beach on a Saturday getting tanked up and who then stand up and just walk away from all their rubbish.
The Pride organisers need to manage these hangers-on before they de-rail the event's reputation.

Yes, it's welcome to corporate Pride.
even the 'Gay' isn't bothered with much these days. Heaven forbid that Queers Against the Cuts remind the partygoers that there's a whole lot of history and resistance that enables their freedoms.
And those freedoms will be so easily taken away if the links between oppressed groups are expunged and the 'politics' taken out.

did you walk through the park blindfolded??

The paths were covered in broken glass still this morning, and all manner of 'used' and thrown away things were abouts the grassed areas.

and well i dont want to go into it but all manner of activity was happening on my road till the early hours, I dont mind the drunken revellers but those engaging in acts of lets say, intimacy, by our garage (we found your used 'things') it was nice to find such on sunday morning.

and more, the drunks we encountered on the train to brighton (we got out for the day!) and the public urinating (where were the police at the train stations?), the language used by inebriated folk was a joy to ones ears especially for my young son, his playground vocabulary will impress his peers no doubt this week..

lets stop the charade and end pride with this years debacle

I dont consider myself homophobic. I've both worked and are and have been friends with plenty of gays in my life. I just object to it being thrust down my throat ( metaphorically, of course) as being "normal" because I dont accept that. I've love women and men, but not in a homosexual way. I dont think that makes me homophobic. For all of "Prides" intentions, there is a freakish fringe that wallow in making in making distasteful and quite obscene gestures and I find that offensive. Just as I wouldn't walk around town showing my naked arse, I wouldn't expect it from anyone else, but some gays feel it is quite acceptable to do that. Well I say they are wrong, it is offensive and weird and the majority of people would agree. They would be arrested if they did it in the street outside of the "Pride Parade", so why should they get away with it in the parade ?
You dont have to feel sorry for my children, they are much loved and I hope they grow up to lead happy, heterosexual relationships. I'm glad you love your daughter too.

Pride in what, in hedonistic, outlandish, deviant(not in the oscar wilde sense!). Pride is just another failed event, so 1990's and not really good enough to requisite any funding; either from the council- (whom are still owed '£20,000'), or from privateers wanting to make a profit from the pink pound..

After the paying of security, fencing, facilties, police, i would hazard a guess that the event was in the red and the council will end up covering the loss as the organisers will fail to pay the civic costs of holding Pride- but our oh so PC council will quietly cover any loss.. will be sending an FOI request soon to discover how muxch the taxpayer paid in supporting this event

its probably best to just accept that because brighton is at the forefront of anything querky you will find councils bending over backwards to look different to everyone else. sadly this creates a one rule for this group and one rule for the other group city that helps build a bigger divide between different groups. sad really as those of us that couldnt care less what different people get up to feel a bit cheated all the same.

So teachers are freaks now are they ? What sick logic is that ? Sounds like a post from someone who either hated sports, or probably more likely, hated getting changed in front of others. Were you embarrassed by your body ? Poor soul, supports my suggestion of social maladjustment. Macs4losers is certainly the right name for you. A loser in life and love

New year, same old rants from both sides. So tedious. Never really have understood the whole event personally . Seems to cause offence, drunkeness, mess, disruption etc etc.
Also be proud, hold your head high but why the need for such a festival to yell it to the world??

Sily old goat. Out of date and out his his league.
Get back in your north stand chat room and make homophobic comments. And if you are 62 as you state on your profile you are way too old to have an 11 month old child as shown by your outdated comments.
Young people are far more

That wouldn't be allowed because it would dwarf the gay festival and put it into perspective. I can't see Brighton Council flying a flag depicting a penis inserted into a vagina quite yet!
If prides all about equality,
Why can't there be a proud parade?
I can see the Lgbt community getting outraged by the thought lol!

I saw a young fellow outside the Gay Pride festival. I dont know if he was a homo-sexual or not but it looked like he needed a jolly good wash and scrub round the ears! And a trip to his local Barber's and Tailor's into the bargain.

Why do PE teachers always say they once had trials for this club or that club or played in the under 21 side in 1972.
Most seem to be failed athletes of some sort and looking at the style of young peoples health today and physical fitness they are failures at teaching too.
Get back in the changing room frats boy or hanging out in children's playgrounds. Weird to say the least.

oooh Maxwell, seem to have struck a nerve with you too ! You're getting very personal now. Didn't you get on with your sports teacher ? I never had any trials with any pro clubs, never said I did either. I wasn't good enough to become a pro footballer but that does not make me a failed athlete. I loved my years of teaching and found it very rewarding. I also think the style of young peoples health and physical fitness today is more a case of Government policy than failures of teachers. I taught throughout the era of playing fields being sold off and PE discouraged. I have no interest in changing rooms or hanging around childrens playgrounds, as you put it. I'm normal and have a young family.
I much prefer LuckyPierre's post which is highly amusing witty and clever.

You came onto this site with what may have been a genuine gripe about mess.
However, instead of just griping about
Mess, you made homophobic
Remarks which is just plain silly.
Some people are filthy pigs. They come in all genders, sexuality, race, colour etc
However, your posting seemed to be an underhand way of expressing your homophobia which is
Concerning if you are a teacher.
People are people. They may be gay or straight, they may teach PE or like
Ballet, but human behaviour is
Not defined by sexuality.
If you hate gays be brave and say it
If you hate dirty people then say it
But the two are not linked in the same
Way that not all Albion fans are
Dirty pigs who urinate outside my home after a match or park their car on the grass in wild park.
Think before you type. You are a teacher and a leader not a follower. Lead don't be lead.

My remarks were neither meant to be homophobic or silly. You said I became a PE teacher because I was a failed footballer. How silly is that ? Are Drama teachers failed actors, Music teachers failed musicians, English teachers failed playwrights. Come on now, where will this end. There are many teachers in the gay community and many of them are brilliant and inspirational, but they leave their gayness outside of the classroom. I've sadly encountered examples of gay teachers abusing their position by abusing young children which may well have tempered my opinion of homosexuality. It doesn't make me homophobic and anyway I wouldn't have gay friends if I was. As you say not all Albion fans are dirty pigs and not all PE Teachers are failed athletes. But if you believe that analogy to be true, are you suggesting that all homosexuals are failed hetrosexuals ?
Funny how a little gripe about discarded litter in the park can generate such a response!

A success?!?! If you look at the comments on the pride facebook page you'll see just how unimpressed regular pride-goers were with the event this year!!

Long queues into Preston Park, extremely expensive once inside, very little to actually do inside, this event has been massively hijacked and turned into a corporate event, the only real part of pride left is the amazing St James St Party on the sat night!!! I think people should neglect the rubbish Preston Park event next year and just party for free at St James St!!!

Please justify your comments please, I have already reported your post as offensive.
You comments and attitude to us straight life giving people is on par of homophobia.
Children are easily influenced I agree,
But shoving transexuals and homosexuality in there faces is not right as they may see it as the norm
And believe it's socially acceptable at a young age, I would be worried if my son put on my girlfriends underwear and said I'm a transvestite because they saw it this weekend.
And you think being normal( straight)

You disgust me. It's people like you that need to leave Brighton. It amazes me that someone can post such a homophobic hate online. So what? You have a child... It was hardly difficult to lie on your back for 5 mins to produce one... Brighton is so full of opinionated self-righteous parents that think the world owes them a living. Do us all a favor & move to Lancing (that's where all your sort go eventually isn't it?)
Some people obviously still havn't gotten the message that this kind of behaviour constitutes hate crime, and can be punished with a custodial sentence.

They also seem to think that hiding behind a computer gives them anonymity.

How sad for them that an order can be made to force the Argus to hand over the details of these individuals, including their IP address via their internet service provider, details of past transgressions, and national shame when they find their name and address published in the press...

I hate pride!! It brings out the worst in many people.

If a group of straight, young males/females, half naked, strolling through the city centre with booze in hand, they'd likely get arrested in minutes!!

If, on a 'nomal' day you see couples with there hands on eachothers genitals in public you'd find it disgusting.

Before anyone comments on this happening in west street every weekend..... It's not during the day I front of impressionable kids!!!

No, I am not gay, but I have many friends who are. I find, when going out with them I am often discriminated against for being straight! Not let into bars/clubs. Not served drinks etc.

I'm all for everyone being equal. But if you want to be equal, treat others as equals too!

I once had to ask a couple to get a room because they were copulating on the beach with families
Around them. The language is atrocious, the drinking unlimited, the pot smoking rife and heavy petting as it was called years ago rampant.
An only two weeks ago the national news carried a story about a couple having sex on the beach at 9am with a group ofen watching one of whom
Tried to join in.
People are people and some just don't know how to behave sexuality is irrelevant.

I love reading through these comments and for the first time I felt like i wanted to say something. Firstly about the costumes that are worn in the Pride Parade, if you are offended by these then don't watch the parade, this is not thrown down anyones throat you all have a choice to watch it, Yes you probably would get arrested if you did this on any other day but so would you if you decided to ride your bike naked but when we have the naked bike ride it isn't an issue on that day and I can pretty much guarantee that there are gay and straight people riding those bikes with no clothes on. It is not a choice to be gay, straight or transgender. I am lucky enough to have the family I have, My mum had her children to live their own lives to learn by their own mistakes but always be there when we needed her. I am gay and I have a straight brother and sister, we all bleed the same we all love the same. I am proud of who I am and if I want to give my girlfriend a kiss when I am out then I will because I can the same and a man and a woman can. Me being gay does have something to do with the way I was raised, I was raised to be who I wanted to be, so to you who left the comment about failing like someone else's parents if your child was gay, get over yourself, get with it, you my friend are the only one that's failing! I understand the whole generation thing but we don't live like that any more.

A very proud Lesbian Britonian
