The number of people detained would soon decrease sharply after a year or two of zero-tolerance observance of the statute.

We don't live in Afghanistan!! In this country we respect our women to handle such encounters in however way THEY see fit!! No?
The way the article reads, the offender was accompanied by two women. The injured man was.... Quote "as he walked with a group of friends at 2.45am."

The attackers should be imprisioned & the sole guy given a medal for fighting them off with whatever he had to hand. Just because he 'won' the fight doesn't mean he started it & it wasn't justified self defence
Any one who uses any sort of tool on an unarmed person should get 10 years minimum, and be placed in prisons containing, exclusively, violent offenders.

Who says CCTV is a bad thing? These days, you need to have it EVERYWHERE ..unless you have something to hide.
