Community groups share Brighton and Hove council £14k grant
1:30pm Friday 7th September 2012 in News
Organisations ranging from food growers to digital champions will benefit from council grants of more than £14,000.
Brighton and Hove City Council handed out the money claiming it will “pay for itself” in the return to local communities.
Among the grants was £2,500 to Brighton and Hove’s Food Partnership for the ‘Sustainable Fish City’ initiative.
This will raise awareness and support sustainable practice with consumers, commercial outlets and the fisheries industry.
About £10,000 also went to Brighton’s Digital Festival over the next two years which is expected to attract a further £200,000 worth of Arts Council funding.
The month-long event, which has just opened, includes exhibitions, conferences, debates, performances, installations and workshops.
Not-for-profit company Wired Sussex, which will use the money, says it will help promote enterprise and employment and support the digital and creative industries which are important to the city.
A further £2,000 has been awarded to a new growing, cooking and healthy eating project at Brighton Unemployed Centre Families Project.
This will secure the services of a project co-ordinator and horticultural specialist to lead activities for those taking part.
