Travellers given marching orders ahead of community festival

A group of travellers have been moved on after they set up camp on the site of a weekend festival.

Officers visited Oaklands Park, Chichester, yesterday (September 7) ahead of Sunday’s Get Active event.

Using their powers under Section 61 they gave the group their marching orders to ensure the festival went ahead.

Sgt Alan Fenn said: "The travellers had moved on to the site yesterday morning but after speaking to them they agreed to move on again.

“This was reinforced by the use of the Section 61 power to ensure the festival could be held on the playing fields tomorrow.

"The travellers left peacefully and the likelihood of any disruption to the event has now been minimised."

How come the Argus allows comments on traveller stories outside of Brighton, but we are not allowed comments on those in Brighton? Censorship? We should be allowed free speech!

It is now impossible to comment on traveller stories involving Brighton and Hove as the result of the Argus having had "discussions with Brighton and Hove City Council". Fact.

So much for free speech! That's now vanished in this city. Why on earth is it anything to do with the Council as to what people post on this website?

Such action reeks of political censorship of the worst kind. This sort of thing never happened under the Tories or Labour. Only the ghastly Greens.

There is no reason whatsoever as to why people should not be able to comment on the state of public parks, playing fields etc. and express their views if they are being prevented from using such facilities, whatever the reason.

Equally, if they are unhappy with the way in which the council protects their rights, (having accepted the responsibility of paying council tax, by the way), then this view should be heard.

The Greens have a duty to face up to their responsibilities to local residents - rather than seeking to curtail criticism, which is exactly what the ban on commenting achieves for them.

This censorship simply serves to confirm the Greens as a new totalitarian political party, with no regard for the views of the electorate.

Their supporters also get verbally agressive on this site, if you disagree with the green way. I find the whole thing creepy and think we need to revisit europrean history to look for clues as to how they operate

The Travellers should told to move to Brighton where they will be given an official welcome by the Mayor.
