Professor to take up post in dementia research in Sussex

A mental health trust is stepping up its studies into the causes of and treatment for dementia.

Professor Sube Banerjee will take up his post as professor of dementia research at the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in November.

Prof Bannerjee will also become an associate dean of Brighton and Sussex Medical School.

The trust provides mental health, substance misuse and learning disability services in Sussex.

In a message to staff, chief executive Lisa Rodrigues said: “Prof Banerjee will be setting up an Institute of Dementia Excellence, so that patients from Sussex and further afield can participate in research trials and receive the most upto-date treatment and care a nd GPs and staff in all care settings can improve their expertise.”

Sussex Partnership is now listed as the most research intensive mental health trust in the south of England.
