Final edition for glossy Brighton lifestyle magazine

A glossy lifestyle magazine has folded.

One Media, the publisher of So Brighton, said the September issue will be the last.

Richard Moore, editorial director, said the firm would now focus on “customer” magazines for national brands. It will continue to publish its flagship title So Tunbridge Wells.

Mr Moore said challenging trading and economic conditions meant tough commercial decisions had to be made.

He said: “We have been under pressure for some months to widen the advertiser base by taking the publications down market while considering reducing the pagination and circulation of our title. This is not something we wish to do, believing it will damage the So brand in the long term and decrease the magazine’s value to both our readers and advertisers.

“At the same time we have been approached by various national brands who have engaged us to publish high-quality ‘customer’ magazines on their behalf.

“This type of publishing is an attractive option in that it has lower financial risk and healthy margins. It’s for this reason we will be switching resources away from less profitable areas of our business to focus on these areas.

“The So brand will be further developed next year with the inaugural ‘So Live Lifestyle Show” being staged in April 2013.

Too many silly magazines full of adverts anyway and less rubbish for the council tax payer to clean up, good.

Exactly! Cover to cover adverts for property and clothes and not much else. It won't be missed.

Correct on all counts. I would think quite a few similar local publications must be wondering how long they have if they do not improve.............

this town is full of glossy expensive looking magazines without any decent quality editorial. They are simply advertising vehicles for things most people can't afford - they're unlikely to survive this recession me thinks...
