Radical refurb planned for Lansdowne Place Hotel in Hove
A 150-year-old hotel is set to undergo a dramatic seven figure refurbishment.
The Lansdowne Place Hotel in Hove will undergo a radical transformation which will see the hotel’s existing 84 rooms transformed into 60 suites.
David Glover, director of Max Apartments, said the hotel would be transformed in an “extensive refurbishment” to create the first facility of its kind in the city.
Most of the newly-created rooms at the hotel, builtin 1854, will be two-bedroom suites with additional living space.
Mr Glover said that the idea was still in the “gestation period” with details of total costs and likely finishing date to be finalised later. He said the new look would be designed to appeal to both family visitors and corporate guests.
The restaurant will close with the loss of some staff but the hotel will retain chefs on site for breakfast and other food demands.
The hotel will remain open to existing and new bookings for weddings and parties.
In July, the owners of the Lansdowne Place placed the Royal York Hotel into the hands of the administrators. A buyer is still being sought for the property in the Old Steine.
Mr Glover said work on the Hove hotel will start in the next couple of months and continue throughout next year.
He said: “We want to do something different in the market and we feel there is a real demand for this style of accommodation.
“It’s no secret that hotels are struggling, life is difficult out there.Whatwe are trying to do is different to anything else in the marketplace, there is nothing in Brighton currently like this.
“It’s a tried and tested formula that we have tried elsewhere in the country, we are not taking a fly on this.
“The length of stay will be significantly longer than in traditional hotel bedrooms.
“We are closing the hotel restaurant because these restaurants do struggle because we are competing with some very good restaurants and people want to eat out.
