Radical refurb planned for Lansdowne Place Hotel in Hove
A 150-year-old hotel is set to undergo a dramatic seven figure refurbishment.
The Lansdowne Place Hotel in Hove will undergo a radical transformation which will see the hotel’s existing 84 rooms transformed into 60 suites.
David Glover, director of Max Apartments, said the hotel would be transformed in an “extensive refurbishment” to create the first facility of its kind in the city.
Most of the newly-created rooms at the hotel, builtin 1854, will be two-bedroom suites with additional living space.
Mr Glover said that the idea was still in the “gestation period” with details of total costs and likely finishing date to be finalised later. He said the new look would be designed to appeal to both family visitors and corporate guests.
The restaurant will close with the loss of some staff but the hotel will retain chefs on site for breakfast and other food demands.
The hotel will remain open to existing and new bookings for weddings and parties.
In July, the owners of the Lansdowne Place placed the Royal York Hotel into the hands of the administrators. A buyer is still being sought for the property in the Old Steine.
Mr Glover said work on the Hove hotel will start in the next couple of months and continue throughout next year.
He said: “We want to do something different in the market and we feel there is a real demand for this style of accommodation.
“It’s no secret that hotels are struggling, life is difficult out there.Whatwe are trying to do is different to anything else in the marketplace, there is nothing in Brighton currently like this.
“It’s a tried and tested formula that we have tried elsewhere in the country, we are not taking a fly on this.
“The length of stay will be significantly longer than in traditional hotel bedrooms.
“We are closing the hotel restaurant because these restaurants do struggle because we are competing with some very good restaurants and people want to eat out.

yes libbyjo, one of my friends who works there just told me they have all been made redundant today! so that then begs the question, who is feeding this crap to the argus and for what purpose? more deception from the crooked owners! im only glad that he will no longer have any hotels in brighton and the poor staff who work in them in the future might actually get paid!

The only good chef, Alistar, could not produce good food with crap ingredients as all his suppliers had the hotel on stop.
It is outrageous that the Argus are portraying this as a good news story... quite the opposite!

As people have mentioned he doesn't pay staff - leaving some unable to pay rent/mortgages. While he rented out one of his houses to Adele for £15,000 a month - can't be that short of cash! He also makes staff deal with the bailiffs and horrible phone calls from suppliers.
He also threatened staff saying if they did not write good fake Trip Advisor reviews they would be sacked. He is a horrible horrible greedy man........I believe in karma.
David is a lawyer and is employed to basically get Nick off the hook, which is why he has always got away with all the court cases he has been dragged through. Nick has a hold over him, something to do with when they were younger.
I don't know how the man sleeps at night! There is so much this man has done which is just disgusting!

Mergers and acquisitions and all this redevelopment lark just fuels inflation.
If the hotel is not making money now, it will make less if cost of use rises to pay for this refurb.
The City is not drawing people in. End of. Nothing to do with the hotels.
This is a student town and they don't patronise hotels.
