Work on Worthing breast cancer screening unit starts

Work on building a £7.7million unit for breast cancer screening starts this autumn.

The site on the corner of Park Avenue and Homefield Road in Worthing has now been cleared by contractors and the two-storey building is expected to take a year to complete.

It will house the West Sussex Breast Cancer Screening Service, which works to ensure all women of eligible age are offered checks every three years.

The service will also help carry out assessments of women who have breast problems.

Once the building is up and running, the age group for screenings will gradually widen from the existing 50-70 years to 47-73.

Service director Olga Strukowska said: “This long awaited project is an exciting opportunity for the entire team to create a state-of-the-art service which will not only improve the existing facility to serve the West Sussex women's population but hopefully enable us to become a well recognised teaching breast cancer centre as well.”

Men also get breast cancer and attend the unit.
Testicular cancer and prostate cancer are managed in other units.
If you get your head far enough up your own ar** Chris you may see your prostate.
