Whitehawk hit by ten fires in night of arson

An investigation is under way into a series of arson attacks on parked cars and motorbikes in the Whitehawk area of Brighton.

At 2am today a motorcycle was torched in Limney Road. The heat of the blaze smashed the owner's windows.

Firefighters from Roedean Community Fire Station said an unsuccessful attempt was also made to set a car nearby.

At about 4am the crews were called to Pett Close, where a caravan was said to be on fire.

On the way there they found a car and a motorcycle on fire in Sompting Close.

Firefighters from Preston Circus dealt with those blazes while Roedean's crews continued to Pett Close.

There they found flames from the caravan had spread to a motorbike, a fence, car and a van outside a house.

Altogether the crews dealt with ten fires.

Sussex Police have confirmed they are treating the blazes as arsons.

Officers were calling at people's homes to gather information this morning.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 101.

Clearly they have spent all there benefit payments on drink!! Are too lazy to get a job, and have nothing better to do with there pityfull life, than waste time for the fire service. Hopefully no one needed them, while they where dealing with, these acts of low life who are a waiste of oxgyen!!!!

For your information the majority of people who live in Whitehawk DO work for a living ..... Not everyone is on benefits. Also they are nice people ! ........ I am assuming you are from Hove as you come across as someone with their head up their own a** !

Indeed...I live in Pett Close and saw what went on last night first hand. If you think it is OK for other peoples property to be set on fire (whether they are working on not) obviously shows some sort of very low level intelligence and lack of any morals. By the way, I work, look after my kids and am not on benefits...

yes some dont care what their kids get up too but not everyone is like that,i know people who work or on benefits that dont allow kids to behave like this,also at times it has nothing to do with kids from this estate,many times kids from other areas come over to cause trouble.

That's some statement to make Boo, uninformed, thoughtless and spiteful! I grew up on a Council Estate in Hollingdean, and have never been unemployed for more than a few weeks, have never been convicted of a criminal offence, neither have my children or any of my sisters or brother, and I can only think of a couple of kids I grew up having gotten themselves in trouble with the Police. Most of the kids I grew up with in the 70's and am still in contact with all seem to be leading successful rewarding lives. So next time you want to speak before you think and feel like calling someone "low life scum" and need some inspiration, perhaps you should take a look in the mirror first, no question!

Why does this article have a 'have your say'? What is there to say about anyone who is happy to put other peoples lives at risk and give the Fire Service so much work to do? And 'Argus' you are factually incorrect on the situation. There were 3 separate fires in the Pett Close area on Friday night and the Fire Service had 14 vehicles to deal with. If you want to 'report' incidents get your facts right. I won't be wasting my money on this rag anymore.
