A WOMAN passenger was seriously injured when a van crashed into a tree.
The collision happened on the A21 Vinehall Road, near John's Cross at 9.40pm on Wednesday.
A Vauxhall Astra van was travelling south towards Hastings and collided with a tree and rebounded back into the carriageway.
A 21-year-old woman from Tonbridge, Kent, was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, with serious injuries but is in a stable condition.
The 27-year-old male driver from Tonbridge, Kent has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving, careless driving and driving while disqualified and remains in custody on Thursday morning.
The road was closed for around four hours while police investigated.
Anyone who saw the vehicle in the area or what happened is asked to call police on 101 quoting Operation Newmill.
