Members of the public left flowers at a police station in tribute to two PCs murdered in Manchester.

Sussex Police flew flags at half-mast at its stations across the county as a mark of respect yesterday.

PCs Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone were killed in a gun and grenade attack after answering a routine burglary call on Tuesday (September 18).

Yesterday (September 20) flowers were left at Brighton Police Station in John Street. Staff tied them to the flagpole outside.

Sussex chief constable Martin Richards said: “I am touched by this lovely gesture from the public.

"It is heart warming to know that many people besides police officers have been affected by this tragic incident.

“The sad news of the death of the two officers as they answered a routine call is a stark reminder of the potential danger that our frontline officers and staff face every time they are on duty.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of these officers and with our colleagues in Greater Manchester Police at this tragic time.”

This is a stark and truly tragic reminder that the police are the thin line that separates us all from anarchy.
Cregan may you rot in hell for eternity.

I'll be interested to see if the usual anti police brigade who come on here with their anti establishment drivel will for once show a bit of respect and pass on their condolences.

RIP to both officers.

And perhaps you need to learn punctuation and grammer. I always find it strange when people say 'I don't like the police', what do you mean? All the police? Just Brighton or everywhere? Have you met all the police? Some people don't like gay men or black people and there's a word for that type of person.

I know many people have had bad experiences with the police & being from Yorkshire, I experienced the miners' strike, but no-one can think what happened is good. It's so, so awful, what happened & a bit of empathy wouldn't go amiss.
The police are people too!
