Well I wouldn't mind getting stopped, I have nothing to hide, fully taxed and insured car I drive. I suspect there are nervous faces driving down there today. Bet you can drive around uninsured for a good while befoer you get spotted!!!

They are always taxed when you look at them, presumably they tax it against an address of someone they know, certainly and most probably not their own address. You'd have to register the car to an address. That's how they get around it. As for them being insured and MOT'd, I wouldn't bet on them being so!!

Why is the Argus advertising this? ...so people with something to hide can avoid the area?

Ridiculous...... take some responsibility Argus for once!!

Could it be that the police told the Argus.
It is not unusual that they give warning of their actions in this way.

Well Ben Parsons, Crime Reporter? is that what happened?

I don't see the point of stop checks if you are going to forewarn people where and when it will happen personally.

There was a Stop and Check at the north end of Preston Park the other morning. There seemed to be a lot of police vehicles around but the only two lorries being checked were both scaffolding ones.

I was stopped about 25 years ago near Withdean Park. My car looked really bad with rust and faded paintwork but it was an old banger I had because it was parked at Brighton Station every day. As it happened, the car had been MOT'd about half an hour before I was stopped and everything was in order. I let the police check it over though before telling them.

This is arguabley the most inane news "article" I have ever red. Police conducting routine activities. I saw a cab driver sitting around scratching his a*se this morning-can you report that too?

Regarding the reporting of this action, don't forget that the Police can learn from who DOESN'T come through the checks as well as from those who do- they can have a look at who is diverting unexpectedly for example.

these checks should happen on a regular basis, without prior warning. a good place to start would be on the roads in and out of the estates in brighton, so no-one could get away without being seen. i agree with caeos, that night checks should also take place, to catch those who have lights out

Different area, but could have done with the Police on Brighton Road, Lancing this morning as two pikeys took their horse and trap up the road from Shoreham Airport towards Worthing. I wonder if the dog they were "walking" behind it ever did have it's head ripped off, as it pretty much was being dragged up the road as couldn't really keep up with the speed of the horses and trap.

Can some folk on here never be pleased the Police have a hard enough job as it is! I think its a good idea to have stop checks and yes advertise them! 1= it will make those uninsured think twice! 2= those who have Mots but dont keep the car roadwothy can be warned or nicked! 3= Just a Police presence can be a deterrent for all sorts of associated crimes!!
ANPR cameras do not show who the driver is so a stop check can catch those driving without the proper paperwork etc etc !
The Police do not get a fair whack here due to twacks who have nothing better to do than troll threads on here !! (and I Do have reasons to be annoyed with the police !! but dont hold my anger against ALL the police)

they will go and attend other crimes if they occur, but traffic police sort out traffic, strangely enough. anyway, driving without a licence, insurance or MOT are also crimes, as are unroadworthy vehicles. how impressed would you be if and unlicenced, uninsured driver, behind the wheel of a complete wreck, ran into you or one of your loved ones? no claim for injury available there!
