Three jailed over Horsham park attack

Three men have been jailed over what police branded an "unprovoked and vicious" attack on a man in Horsham.

Luke Talbot, 21, and Max Talbot, 22, both of St Christopher's Close, Horsham, and Jason Engleby, 20 of Bostock Avenue, Horsham, were sentenced on Thursday over the assault on the 29-year-old on July 23 last year.

Sussex Police issued CCTV footage showing the man being stabbed in the body with a bottle and kicked in the head as he lay on the floor.

Luke Talbot was sentenced to three and a half years after admitting wounding with intent.

Englby was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and given two and a half years.

Max Talbot was found guilty of causing actual bodily harm and was jailed for five months.

Police CCTV Operator, Keith Wilkins, saw the attack as it happened and sent officers to the scene.

When Max Talbot and Engleby were caught, they pretended they were victims themselves and had been set on by a gang - before they were shown the footage.

Detective Constable Matt Wilson said: "This was a completely mindless and vicious assault on a man minding his own business and walking home from a night out.

"Two of the defendants tried to maintain that they were provoked and acted in self-defence, but the court found that there was quite clearly no evidence whatsoever of that.

"The police CCTV, which is operated in conjunction with Horsham District Council, shows that they mounted an utterly disgraceful attack on an innocent man, who still suffers both physically and emotionally."

Just repulsive. Spineless, mindless and pointless. I hope the victim is able to rebuild his life and confidence.
