Man rescued from sea in Eastbourne

A man was rescued after falling into the sea.

Lifeboat crews were launched after reports that a man had fallen into the sea near to Eastbourne Pier at about 3.30am this morning.
 

The man was later recovered by crew at Splash Point and taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital.

Although it isn't reported in the story, would I be correct in assuming that this gentleman had been drinking (copious quantities of) alcohol immediately prior to this incident?

I know that one shouldn't make assumptions, but most (sane) people don't go swimming in the sea at Eastbourne in the middle of the night... And it is quite an unusual spot for a suicide attempt.

Could he have been fishing on the pier?

Hope he's ok and says a big thank you to the RNLI for saving his life and all of them having to get out of their warm beds in the middle of the night - well done to them!

Good point, hadn't considered that possibility. I always thought that fish came from Tesco.
