Police searching fishing lakes for murder handgun find nothing

Police searching fishing lakes for a handgun used in a murder have finished their hunt and found nothing.

Jimmy Millen, 27, died in Carpenter Drive, Hastings, on October 24, 2001 after the passenger on a black motorbike fired shots from a handgun.

The bike drove off from Tilebarn Road where Mr Millen was shot and past the junction of Lancaster Road.

It then went toward the Castleham Industrial Estate.

New evidence had recently come to light, which led to the search of the Clive Vale Angling Club waters over the past two weeks.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick May of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team said: "Although nothing was found in the lakes we will continue to review the case and will also follow up any new information which is received.

"I would like to thank the Clive Vale Angling Club for their support during this search, and the residents of the area for their patience.

“The family of Jimmy Millen have been kept updated with developments and I have assured them that although the search has not been successful, we will review any new information that comes to police, and take the appropriate action.

"There is a £10,000 reward put up by Sussex Police in 2001 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons or persons responsible for the murder of Jimmy Millen, which remains valid today."
