Police investigate mystery hit and run on A259

A mystery hit and run on the A259 in Alfriston left a Seaford man with head injuries and no memory of how he got them.

Police are now investigating how the 24-year-old man came to be found lying beside River Lane on Monday morning.

They believe the man was hit sometime between then and 11pm the previous night while walking along the Alfriston Road to see friends in Alfriston.

He was found by a local resident at 6am with minor head injuries. The good Samaritan called an ambulance, and he was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital for treatment and discharged later that morning.

PC Richard Hobbs at the Sussex Roads Policing Unit in Polegate said; "We don't currently know where or when this collision happened, although it could well have happened at or near the place at where he was found.

"The man can't remember exactly what happened or give any description of a vehicle. Anyone who was driving along that stretch of road on Sunday night into Monday morning and who saw anything that might help, is asked to call us via 101 quoting serial 0145 of 24/9."

The A259 doesn't go through Alfriston. In this area the A259 is the coast road between Seaford and Eastbourne. Alfriston is inland on a minor road.

Thanks for that - the police press release describes it as the A259 Alfriston Road, so I will amend the story when we've checked out exactly where they mean.

'sussexram40', maybe the police statement should have read: 'within the parish of Alfriston' and that would have made it geographically correct.......I think!
