The construction of the Bexhill to Hastings link road has moved a step closer after the scheme’s compulsory purchase orders (CPOs) were confirmed.

The move comes despite a legal challenge from the Hastings Alliance pressure group.

The Secretary of State for Transport and the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government both gave the all clear for the CPOs.

East Sussex County Council will now be able to acquire the land needed for the £93.8 million projects.

The Government awarded £56 million in March’s budget towards the 5km scheme to link the A259 and B2092.

The council claims the relief road will enable the building of up to 2,000 new homes and business park, creating more than 3,000 new jobs and providing a £1 billion boost to the economy.

A legal challenge, launched by the Hastings Alliance group, will be heard next month.
