Golfers putt £300 in charities’ coffers
Sunshine graced Brooklands golf course for a charity tournament.
The 5th John Ide Memorial Trophy competition was held to raise funds for lifeboat and air ambulance charities.
The event is in memory of former golfing regular Mr Ide, who supported both causes.
Held by the Rising Sun country pub and the Upper Beeding Golf Society, this year’s event saw 24 golfers battle it out on the greens while collecting more than £300 in donations.
Mr Ide’s widow, Audrey, presented business trainer, author and sharp-shooter Paul Trew with the first place trophy. Geoff Johnstone came second and third was Dean Clarke.
Owen Ellis, who works at the Rising Sun pub, said: “It was a great day and we had lots of fun for a good cause.
The weather was perfect and we hope to do the same again next year.”

Why didn't they just donate the cost of playing a round (and buying a round of drinks afterwards), the cost of petrol to get there, the cost of the ridiculous trousers they wear instead?
I think this would have been more than £300.
But well done anyway.
