Police officers injured in mass brawl at Camber Sands Pontins

First published in News

Three police officers were taken to hospital following a mass brawl involving up to 20 people at the Camber Sands Pontins.

Two PCs - a man and a woman - were sent to reports of fighting at the holiday park just after 1.30am on Saturday.

When they arrived, the officers were confronted by a group of between 15 and 20 people who attacked them, Sussex Police said.

Captor spray had to be used by the officers to control and disperse the suspects who fled into the site before other police colleagues arrived.

A search of the area led to six men and a woman, all from north London and aged between 19 and 49, being arrested on suspicion of affray and assault.

The two PCs and a third officer who were injured during the arrests were treated for cuts and bruises at the Conquest Hospital in St Leonards before being discharged.

The men and woman who were arrested were freed on police bail until November 19, pending further inquiries.

some years ago a lively free for all started at lewes town hall during a boxing dinner, all the local on duty police arrived very sharpish, the town hall being a few hundred feet from the then nick, the duty sergeant sent a WPC to look around the door after a quick peek she reported a melee involving more than 30 people, the sergeant held station in the entrance way for 10mins or so then stuck his head round the door, he noted that apart from a few bodies on the floor all was apparently quiet. then they all left, he had reasoned that as all those involved knew each other, it would stop a quickly as it started now thats what i call policing, i was standing by the door with my wife and others, so this is 1st hand, and although it was in 1980's there are a good few still around lewes who were there that night. including the dodgy builder who had just bumped the owner of the local timber yard for a tidy sum

Whilst the 19 year olds probably know no better (what with being jobless, chav scum and all that) the 49 year old is old enough not to get in to drunken fights surely.

As for the woman, sound like a real catch!!

If someone took me on holiday to Pontins I would also be annoyed.

However I would not take my anger out on the police.

If anyone waded into a fight I was having spraying me with Captor spray I would say "OI! NO! Stop that or you will get a slap!" Which is what probably happened.
