Dozens of Crawley jobs lost as sports chain JJB sold

Dozens of jobs at a Crawley sports store have been lost after administrators of a national chain pulled the plug.
Sports retailer JJB called in administrators KPMG on Monday, and yesterday it was announced part of the group was sold to Sports Direct International.
This included 20 stores, one of which is based at th e Goldstone Retail Park in Hove which employs 21 people. But the remaining stores, including one at The Martlets in Crawley which employs 26 people, are not included.
Richard Fleming, the UK head of restructuring at KPMG, said: “Successive attempts to restructure the business, both financially and operationally, have not been enough to prevent the company falling into administration.
“Unfortunately a buyer could only be found for 20 stores on a going concern basis. All staff made redundant as a result of store closures have had their arrears of wages and holiday entitlements paid in full.”
