Fresh arrest in Copthorne care home inquiry

A woman is being questioned over the death of a 77-year-old Sussex care home resident.

The 44-year-old, from Tunbridge Wells, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence in relation to the death of Jean Halfpenny, of Orchid View care home, Copthorne.

The home closed after Sussex Police launched a neglect inquiry last year.

It has since reopened with a new name and management.

A 28-year-old man, who is currently in Dartmoor Prison, was arrested as part of the same inquiry last month.

Two men and a woman remain on bail as part of an inquiry into suspected neglect at the home, following arrests in September and October last year.

Sussex Police said the investigation involves the NHS, social services and the West Sussex coroner.
