Bus lane plans for Brighton's Lewes Road a step closer
Radical plans to revamp a dual carriageway and install a bus lane have moved a step closer.
Brighton and Hove City Council has signed off on the proposal, which will also include a separate two-metre wide cycle lanes, for Lewes Road, Brighton, at the council's transport committee yesterday.
It will affect the area north of the Vogue Gyratory junction to the American Express Community Stadium and universities.
However the proposals for the complicated junction near Sainsbury's are to be delayed six months as transport planners take more time to come up with a solution.
The plans include extending the 30mph speed limit northwards to the A27 at Falmer.
Cycle lanes will run behind bus stops onto pavements and 50 parking bays will be removed from the east side of Lewes Road between Natal Road and the Bus Garage.
However some short term parking will remain outside Westons Pharmacy, south of Coombe Road, after a petition of about 350 people was presented.
Formal traffic orders will now be advertised and the plan will come back to another town meeting in November.
It is thought construction could start in December.
