Woman arrrested on suspicion of attempting to abduct schoolgirl

Woman arrrested on suspicion of attempting to abduct schoolgirl Woman arrrested on suspicion of attempting to abduct schoolgirl

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to abduct a sixyear- old girl from outside her school.

Police launched an investigation after a woman picked up the child, put her on her back and crossed the road with her.

The woman was stopped when the girl’s mother noticed her. It is believed the mother contacted the police and a woman – who had been in the area before the suspected attempted abduction – was subsequently arrested.

The incident took place outside Heene First School in Norfolk Street, Worthing.

It is thought the woman headed in the direction of nearby Victoria Park with the girl.

A Sussex Police statement initially said: “Police are investigating after a woman approached a girl as she left her Worthing school on Tuesday afternoon “The local woman, who is often seen near the school, gave the six-year-old girl a piggy back and crossed the road with her before her mother became aware and challenged her.

“She handed the child back and walked away.”

The spokeswoman subsequently added: “Police investigating a report that a six-yearold girl was approached as she left her Worthing school on Tuesday afternoon have arrested a woman on suspicion of attempted abduction.”

we don't know the circumstances to this - there is no reference to whether the woman is related to the child in some way, nothing else at all. There's obvioulsy a possibility of mental illness on the part of the woman.

Typical sensationalist argus attempting to link AGAIN to the poor April Jones story

Whilst I am all for the introduction of lifelong torture for kiddy fiddlers, this woman is probably a bit scatty and may have lost a baby or something herself.

Whilst she clearly needs help and (if not mad, punishment) I have an open mind at present.

If she is like Myra Hindley or Rose West, then may she have bleach injected in her eyes, but until then I reserve judgement.

The Argus has made no link to April Jones - they are unrelated incidents from what I can see - and we don't know if she has mental health problems. I am sure that the police will be investigating this angle.

I think this would be reported in the same manner, whatever happened to be in the national news at the time.
I don't see any sensationalism in the article, it is a bit limited but not in any way sensationalist.

Would be good to know if the lady is confirmed mentally ill (assume anyone who nonchalantly takes someone elses' child from the school gates on piggy back probably isn't quite in the same reality as you and I). And if she is going to receive help and be prevented from being a risk to children in the future, guess that part of the story won't be exciting enough to report on though...

precisely. There is no journalism to speak off, in fact I bet the report is lifted word for word from the Police media release.

If there was any hint of journalism I suspect it would uncover a rather sad story in which the woman needs help, and that, wouldn't quite make the same sensationalistic headlines,

The sad fact is that nowadays people with mental health problems are just left without the help they need due to the cuts and also due to the reason this all started - Thatcher decided to cut costs and started "Care in the Community" and you can see the result here. It doesn't always work and with this current unelected government it's going to get a lot worse.

Hi
The police did not release information about this, we approached them after it was mentioned by a parent on Facebook.
Then they released something.
We also then approached the school and WSCC.
The police are still not actively releasing this information.
We will obviously follow up this story when she answers bail.

As the others have said, there are no details in this article. If it is the woman that I believe it is, she can regularly be seen hanging around Victoria Park and trying to play with the kids. She tried to take my baby boy from my arms a year ago, but she seemed to only want to play with him. It scared me at the time, but I did believe she was harmless.

The article could only report the information made available at the time and as far as i can see the only connection in this unfortunate incident to April Jones is the ever increasing need for parents to be constantly vigilant of there children.
There are so many sick perverts around these days many of whom judging by the comments on this page alone, are in urgent need of admission to a psychiatric unit and read the Argus.

There are many unfortunate people with mental health problems walking our streets thanks to thatchers(spit) cost cutting, so called care in the community policy. Subsequent governments have then systemat
ically taken away funding for many help centres leaving people vunerable.

Interesting that if this had been a man he would have been immediately labelled a paedophile...

I can only assume that women are never guilty of this crime - just mentally ill or have lost a child.

Stinks of double standards and sexism to me.

Arrrested? Maybe the journalist comes from zummerzet, loike me?

After all, we don't all speak like 1940s BBC radio announcers. But you have given me a good idea- I'm going to send a couple of my favourite badly spelled signs in to the Argus. Hopefully they will print them, and we can start a new column- does that sound a good idea? After all, it fills in a bit of paper and doesn't require any actual journalism.

Some years ago, my father used to pick up my nieces from junior school, because their mum worked until about 6pm. One day he wasn't well, so I went instead and the teachers refused to let the girls out of the classroom to come to me- despite the fact that they pointed and obviously knew me. In fairness, the teacher came out and told me this so that I wouldn't be unduly concerned, but the kids had to sit there until the school contacted the parents to confirm who I was.

So how exactly did THIS incident happen? Lets see a bit of journalism and investigation, eh?

The fact is whether this woman is ill or not, she tried to abducted a child. A child who was not hers!! Please don't make excuses that she has mental health problems, that is no excuse! What would have happened if nobody noticed? There is already a 5 year old missing in Wales, this could have been another one.

Hopefully when this woman was arrested She was assessed by a Professional to see whether she needs to be detained as being a danger to herself or the public.I am not going to make excuses for her but if all of those people know she has a problem why hasn't it been reported and if she has then the Authotities have a case to answer;
Some of the vitriol that is allowed to be published here amazes me,when according to Jo Wadsworth they stopped the ability to comment about anything to do with Travellers for this very reason.
