Brighton company's job boost

A leading digital games company is to create 50 jobs by expanding into Brighton.

Leading mobile-social game developer Mediatonic is set to give the local digital sector a major boost by opening a new studio in the city.

The firm is awaiting confirmation that it can move into One Gloucester Place in the next few weeks.

Mediatonic recently moved into temporary premises in Old Steine and has already hired 10 employees, due to start within the next few weeks.

The London-based company said it was actively looking for more staff over the next 12 months as it doubles in size.

The announcement is another boost for the city’s digital sector, growing at twice the rate of the national digital sector and the fastest growing industry in Brighton and Hove.

Mediatonic will move into One Gloucester Place, previously home to Lloyds TSB which moved out in 2010 after 25 years at the site. Following multi-million pound renovations the site is beginning to fill up with INTO University Partnerships taking half of the 40,000 sq ft property.

Who says they are 'leading'? Did they say that by any chance?

Oh for goodness' sake...does it matter?! 50 IT jobs in the city is fantastic news.

heartily agreed ms. smith, although I suspect Archie's take is thinly disguised irony rather than stupidity!

Even if we're pessimistic and assume half of the jobs go to outsiders, that's still 25 less people claiming dole, and 25 more people living locally, working locally, and potentially spending locally! i mean, what's not to like....

In fairness someone will doubtlessly come up with a clever quip about how it will increase the size of the commuting populace and how it will drive up the cost of the papaya in their local vegan cafe, but frankly that's not my problem.....

Speaking as a veteran member of the so called 'games' industry I can say that they do have an impressive portfolio and client list so there is potential there for them to claim to be leading, whether that's true or not is open to debate - but they're up there with the movers and shakers thats for sure... and It's a good thing that they're expanding the local digitalal IT sector - whether thats because it's a cool creative place to be or more that the boss lives here is probably closer to the truth...

Good luck to them.

One look at Wired Sussex jobs page will tell you that ALL companies are 'leading'.

and what is a potential employer supposed to say when they are looking to recruit :

" we are a completely backwards looking operation, we haven't invested in our staff since 1973, our canteen is infested with cockroaches, our building is to be condemned and our client base hasn't changed since the invention of the fax machine".....

of course they are all "leading", it makes people want to join them!

As an aside, I'm still not sure why you are posting these messages. Surely we should be supporting a company that's actively trying to employ people rather than pick holes in how they go about it?

This will only increase the size of the commuting populace and it will drive up the cost of the papaya in my local vegan cafe.

Given that millions of people play their games every day and they are growing by leaps and bounds, it's pretty fair to say that they are a leading company in their sector.

And they are very nice about Brighton on their website. They want people to come here.

People are right about the price of papaya. It'll go through the roof. Good job I can't stand the stuff.

Move quick before the Jobcentre finds out about it and fills the vacancies with Work Experience 'volunteers' who have been threatened with loss of benefits if they don't co-operate.
