Plea over 'stolen' puppy
A great-grandmother believes she has been a victim of a distraction burglary after one of her puppies went missing after a viewing.
The Chihuahua cross disappeared from Margery Coomber’s home in Angmering after she had welcomed a family in to view five puppies she had advertised online to sell.
Mrs Coomber, 74, said she was delighted when she received a call from a woman who wanted to see the litter of pups.
The woman visited Mrs Coomber and chose a puppy but claimed she wanted her husband to also see it before leaving the deposit.
The couple and their children then visited her home on Tuesday, September 25.
M r s Coomber said the pair left their children in the sitting room while talking to her in the kitchen beside the puppies.
She told how she went to check on the children when the woman's husband said they had to leave.
Moments later Mrs Coomber discovered Chico, worth £275, had gone missing.
She said: “They didn’t say goodbye, nothing.
“They left rather hurriedly.
I didn’t think anything of it.”
Mrs Coomber added that Chico was not the puppy the woman had originally chosen and was already promised to someone else.
The 74-year-old reported the incident to the police.
She believes that Chico had been stolen by the pair in a distraction burglary.
She said: “There’s nowhere he could be. They are only small puppies; she could have put it in her pocket.
“They are so small.
“It wasn’t really ready to go from its mother.
“For all I know it could be dead now.”
The puppy went missing at five weeks old, two to three weeks earlier than when it should have left its mother.
A Sussex Police spokesman said the incident is being investigated.
The couple, who claimed to be from Findon, are said to both be in their mid- 20s.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting crime reference WA2/082197/12.

Thousands of dogs need homes and it makes me sick to think of people breeding animals to make money. You can bet they still call themselves animal lovers. Anyone that buys an animal should be ashamed of themselves.
Disgusting to be selling a cross puppy at £275 - I expect they thought the same but shame they took the poor puppy away from it's mum far too early.

it is utterly morally wrong to be attempting to make profit from breeding and selling puppies at this time. There are so many unwanted and abandoned animals
deperately needing homes together with the fact many animal shelters are bursting at the seams and struggling to cope.
It is exactly people like this who continue to 'breed for profit' who are intensifying the problem, together with those who insist on buying puppies from local advertisers and online ads rather than acquiring their new animal from a animal rescue centre and freeing up another space for another abandoned animal! Rescue Don't Buy.
