Seal pup rescued from Eastbourne beach

This seal pup almost came a cropper after becoming stranded on Eastbourne beach.

The East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) was called out after onlookers found the young seal on the pebbles with puncture marks and blood on it.

WRAS founder Trevor Weeks said: “The seal was a reasonable weight for its rough age, and well hydrated too, but the injuries were of concern.

“We are not sure this stage what has caused the injuries but it may be the rough weather or fighting with another seal.”

The seal is being cared for at RSPCA Mallydams near Hastings before he will be released back into the wild.
