UPDATE: Ringmer teacher charged with child abduction
5:02pm Wednesday 10th October 2012 in News By Ben Parsons, Crime Reporter
Teacher Jeremy Forrest has been extradited to the UK after going on the run with a pupil.
The 30-year-old married amateur musician, from Ringmer, near Lewes, was last night charged with child abduction by Sussex Police.
He disappeared with the 15-year-old pupil on September 20, sparking a Europe-wide search and prompting public appeals from both sets of families for their safe return.
The pair were eventually found in Bordeaux eight days later after Scots-born Forrest was recognised by pub staff after apparently touting his CV for cash-in-hand work.
Forrest disembarked a flight at Gatwick this afternoon with a towel covering his head before being taken away in a police van which was waiting on the Tarmac.
In France, Forrest was held on suspicion of child abduction following the issuing of a European Arrest Warrant and was detained at Gradignan prison on the outskirts of Bordeaux.
Following his appearance in court in the French city last week, his solicitor Phil Smith, of Tuckers Solicitors, said the "full story" behind the disappearance would emerge in the coming months.
The pupil has been reunited with her family. She was reported missing when she failed to turn up for school and it emerged she had travelled to France with Forrest.
Following their arrival in France, the pair are understood to have taken the train to Bordeaux from Paris and booked into the Choiseul Hotel in a city back street.
They spent the rest of their stay at the Huguerie Hotel just along the road, with Forrest spending his days handing his CV into bars popular with British expats.
Forrest is due to appear at Eastbourne Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning.
