Punch in Brighton's West Street leaves man with bleeding on the brain

A man was left with bleeding on the brain after a fight in Brighton's West Street.

The 20-year-old, from Brighton, was taken to a specialist brain damage unit after he was punched and hit his head on the pavement outside Molly Malone's Irish Bar.

Police said he was with friends when two men came up and started an argument at about 3.30am on Sunday.

Both were white, between 18 and 19, and about 5ft 10in or 5ft 11in.

One was short with sunken eyes and wore a blue shirt.

The other had brown hair and wore a grey top.

Sussex Police said he was taken to Hurstwood Park Neurosciences Centre as a precaution.

A spokeswoman said: "He is stable, awake and conscious and not in any immediate danger."

Anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 101, quoting serial 282 of October 7, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

It's a shame when the residents of your fair city play down serious assaults on the young and innocent.
Does this sort of thing only merit column inches if there is a death?
