Suspected shoplifter arrested after knocking over Brighton supermarket shelves

A suspected shoplifter received hospital treatment for a cut hand after being arrested in a supermarket.

The 28-year-old man was challenged by security guards in the Co-op in Lewes Road, Brighton at about 7.50pm last night.

When stopped by workers, he resisted detention and knocked over a number of shelves.

The man received treatment at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton before being taken into custody where he remained this morning.

The store was closed for about 30 minutes after the incident.

It was closed for a lot more than 30 minutes. Closed for most of the night.
