Police have appealed for help to clamp down on cycle crime.

British Transport Police (BTP) have released pictures of people wanted for questioning in relation to bike crime across the county.

Officers want to talk to the people pictured following thefts at stations including Brighton, Preston Park, Worthing and Hassocks.

These include stealing a bike lock and bike which was secured to a bike shelter.

Inspector Gary Ancell said: “Sadly, bicycles are a popular target for thieves but there are lots of things people can do to make sure their property is adequately marked and secured.

“It’s important to remember to register your bike and ensure a solid lock is used to secure it.”

So, over the course of three days, then? Look at the other timings and let me know your opinions. Good or (most likely) bad.

Yes most of them seem to be white if you open the whole sequence. Maybe you should rename to dolt.

Yeah, 66% of those photographed are white. What's your point?

But 92.1% of people in the UK are white. It's more to do with badly maanged immigration than skin colour.

Blue, yellow, bright green or with two heads, they are all a bunch of thieves and should be dealt with as such.

I think the police do a wonderful job and you lot out there would soon be moaning if your bike was stolen. If you really believe you can do better, join the police....or maybe you are not good enough. Stop moaning and support your police.

The problem is bicycle thieves. It has nothing to do with immigration management or skin colour.

Apparently 66% of the people in the pictures are caucasian. You then tell us that 92.1% of people in the UK are white. However bicycle thieves are unlikely to come from the wealthier parts of society, and so if you take in economic background then I strongly suspect there is no identifiable racial grouping that is more likely to steal bicycles.

I find the racism in this discussion highly offensive.

It's unarguable that there's a disproportionate number of non-whites in the photos, given that the population of Sussex is overwhelmingly white.

But then again, at this stage they're only photos.

Why are so many getting hung up on the colour of the thieves. Does it matter....just name them and stop whinging. Call the police and do your bit. Some people think they are so funny but are simply just plain stupid.

It is true to say that this story is about cycle crime and regardless of who is stealing bikes they need to be caught and punished.

It is also true to say that crime statistics in relation to race make uncomfortable reading and should not be ignored, especially if policing should be intelligence led, rather than reactive.

But where are the photos of Jason Kitcat who robbed the city of 800k when they built the Old Shoreham Rd cycle paths? Now that really is bycycle theft on a grand scale. But this is green theft so thats all right then.

We are very close to South London which has a massive non-white population.

The racism in this thread is very ugly.

I have seen many pics from CCTV footage of crimes where the criminals are all white and yet curiously in those cases the issue of race does not arise.

Intelligent analysis of statistics is obviously useful in combating crime. However foolish use of statistics doesn't help anyone.

Bicycle theft, like many other small crimes, is not something that wealthy parts of society are likely to be engaged in. The non-white UK population is predominantly in the poorest parts of society and so when considering statistics that must be taken into consideration. The bicycle theft is also very probably urban in nature, and of course once again the non-white UK population is predominantly city dwelling.

It is easy to abuse statistics fulfil a racist view and unfortunately we have had this kind of thing for years from some major UK newspapers.

All you have done in your comment is validated the use of the statistics.
