A businessman, MP and advisor to the Prime Minister on intellectual property has told how illegal downloads cost the creative industries £70bn.
Mike Weatherley, MP for Hove and Portslade, has been praised for his work on the Intellectual Property Bill, which has received its second reading in Parliament.
Mr Weatherley, whose background is in the music and film industry, wants education on the effects of music piracy.
He said: “As the adviser to the Prime Minister on intellectual property, I consistently emphasise the importance of education in addressing the problems of illegal downloads.
“Our creative industries contribute over £70bn to our economy, so it is vital that this income is protected.
"In the end, everyone loses out.”
