A swimming training provider has been recognised for its innovative use of technology after it used waterproofed iPads to film learners underwater.

Swim UK, based at Brighton Swimming Centre, uses the devices to observe technique and give quick and detailed feedback.

The new approach – not thought to be used anywhere else in the region – earned Swim UK an award at the South East Technology Showcase (SETS) 2014.

Lydia Clifton, marketing manager at Swim UK, said: “With the underwater casing we’re able to film swimmers under and over the water and give them instant feedback.

“It’s really speeding up how quickly we can improve people’s technique and help apprentice teachers.

“We can show people what they’re doing wrong and see the improvement straight away.

“We’re not aware of any other swimming clubs that use it. I think we’re the first “There are also apps on the market where you can draw on the screen and email it back to the swimmers as a reminder.”
