MORE than 110 jobs are being created in the city in the run-up to Christmas.

Spabreaks.com, Europe’s largest spa booking agency, is opening its first offices outside London on Monday at Sovereign House in Church Street, Brighton.

It will initially employ 25 staff selling spa getaways but it hopes to have 60 in place by January.

Roles include team leaders, sales agents and customer service professionals.

It is also planning to develop a new tech team based in its Brighton office and is looking to employ web designers and developers.

This boost comes as Debenhams announced it is looking to employ 54 workers for the Christmas rush.

These jobs only run from mid-November until the beginning of January.

The double jobs boost has been welcomed by city business leaders.

Abi Wright, founder of Spabreaks.com, said there were a number of reasons why the company had chosen Brighton as the city to expand in.

She said: “As a vibrant, youthful coastal city, conscious of the importance of both mental and physical health, Brighton embodies many of our values as a company and was therefore the ideal choice.

“This new second office is an important investment and key part of our wider strategy for continued business growth.

“We spent months looking for the perfect location.”

She said the new office has space to employ 180 staff “as a measure of the company’s aspirations for future growth”.

The expansion is the next step in the company’s pattern of growth.

Spabreaks.com was ranked number two in the 2012 Sunday Times Fast Track 100 and has doubled its turnover to £20 million over the past four years.

It employs more than 80 members of staff at its London HQ.

The company works with more than 800 venues both in the UK and overseas and sends more than 6,000 people away on a spa day or break every week.

Meanwhile, Debenhams Brighton has started its annual pre-Christmas rush.

Store manager Stephen Boyle said: “Christmas is our busiest time of year and we begin planning months before the festivities start.

“Many colleagues who join us during this time stay on as permanent members of the team, so it’s a great time to apply.”

Gavin Stewart, executive director of the Brighton and Hove Economic Partnership, based in Pavilion Buildings, welcomed the news.

He said: “It’s great to hear that Spabreaks.com is to open in the city.

“With the potential for 60 new roles by January and the jobs created by Debenhams, it all adds up to a great employment boost for the city.”
